Partnerships and Programs

International engagement is an indispensable part of life at the University of Rochester—from our lecture halls and performance spaces to our community partnerships and outreach programs.

But we’re committed to doing more. That’s why we are:

Expanding international partnerships in research.
Increasing opportunities for our students to study and work abroad.
Connecting with major emerging universities from around the globe.
Adding study abroad opportunities in Asia, Africa, and the South Pacific.

International Partners and Agreements

Collaborations with our international partners and institutions are essential to the success of our global activities. The University of Rochester has developed formal partnerships in over 30 countries around the world.

Global Partnership Fund (GPF)

The GPF was established to promote research and scholarly collaboration across the globe, focusing on relationships that are scalable and sustainable and will likely lead to future research and academic outputs (e.g., joint publications, grants and other funding, co-teaching, etc.). Awards are available primarily to support University academic and research faculty to offset the costs of international research and teaching collaboration, either at Rochester or abroad.

Worldwide Universities Network (WUN)

In 2012, Rochester joined WUN, a consortium of 24 global universities. WUN hosts interdisciplinary research groups, promotes overseas research visits, and coordinates events, conferences, and seminars.

International Education Week (IEW)

International Education Week (IEW) is an annual joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote international engagement at U.S. colleges and universities and will be held across the U.S. November 18-22, 2024.

Alumni

More than 10,000 Rochester alumni live outside the United States. No matter where you are in the world, you can stay connected to your alma mater and each other.

International & Area Studies

Several programs and departments have an international or cross-cultural focus, including Modern Languages and Cultures, African and African American Studies, Polish and Central European Studies, and East Asian Studies.

Foreign Languages

Rochester offers programs in 18 different foreign languages, including new programs in Korean and Turkish. Housed in Arts, Sciences and Engineering, these courses are open to students, faculty, and staff from all schools and divisions within the University.

The University’s international community makes our campus a vibrant, eclectic, and exciting place to study and live. We can provide information about applications, scholarships, English language exams, and more.

International Services Office (ISO)

ISO provides services and resources to international students, scholars, employees, and other visitors to the University, as well as departments that host and support them. It issues visa documents, advises on immigration matters, and helps meet U.S. reporting requirements.
